One of the few known carnivorous bromeliads , it's fascinating and unusual. Its leaves form a funnel-shaped rosette capable of collecting rainwater: insects and other small arthropods are trapped in this liquid, digested by enzymes and symbiotic bacteria. The leaves, light green with yellowish hues, are covered with a thin waxy coating that makes it difficult for prey to climb out.

Characteristics

It prefers very bright positions, even in full direct sunlight. Active year-round; growth slows in winter if temperatures drop too low. Native to South America (Guyana, Venezuela and northern Brazil), where it grows on very poor, sandy or rocky soils, often in humid and sunny environments.

The leaves form a funnel-shaped rosette that collects rainwater. Insects, attracted and trapped by the reservoir, are unable to ascend due to the waxy surface and are digested by enzymes and bacteria.
