Drosera scorpioides is a carnivorous plant belonging to the Drosera genus, native to southwestern Australia. It is one of the so-called "pygmy sundews," characterized by its small size and specific adaptations that allow it to survive in extreme, nutrient-poor environments.

Main features:

  • Leaves: Forms a compact rosette of small, fleshy leaves, covered with glandular tentacles that secrete a sticky mucus to trap insects. The tentacles react quickly upon capture by enveloping their prey.
  • Color: The leaves are generally green, but with strong exposure to light they can take on reddish hues that make them particularly decorative.
  • Flowers: Produces very delicate white flowers that develop on thin stems, emerging above the rosette.
  • Habitat: It is adapted to sandy, nutrient-poor soils, typical of Australian heathlands, where it tolerates dry summers, entering a form of dormancy.

Characteristics

It prefers indirect or filtered light exposure, avoiding prolonged direct sunlight. It grows well during spring and summer, but requires specific care in winter. Ideal for humid terrariums or well-lit places with high humidity and moderate ventilation.

Drosera graomogolensis captures its prey using leaves covered in slimy glands (tentacles). The insects, attracted by the shiny, dew-like drops, become trapped. The plant slowly rolls its leaves to digest its prey and extract nutrients.
