Sarracenia "Scarlet Fire" is a selection of great ornamental impact, characterized by an elegant balance between the luminous green of the pitchers and the intense crimson-red hues concentrated mostly in the upper part. The plant develops tall, thin, and slender pitchers, creating an airy and spectacular appearance that is particularly refined when the plant reaches good maturity.

The most fascinating feature of this selection is the contrast between the bright green base of the pitchers and the marked reddish coloring of the apical area. The lids show a dense green and whitish reticulation, crossed by red veins that become progressively more intense toward the inside, while the throat displays a spectacular concentration of dark red pigmentation. This effect creates a sort of chromatic “fire” that stands out immediately against the green body of the pitchers. Additionally, another particularity is that once mature, it produces lids that fall over the pitcher opening, almost covering it completely.

Sarracenia "Scarlet Fire" is therefore an ideal choice for those seeking a plant with a bold yet elegant character, capable of combining slenderness, luminosity, and chromatic intensity. The bright green of the pitchers serves as a base for a spectacular explosion of red in the upper zone, making this selection particularly striking and suitable for a high-quality Sarracenia collection.

Characteristics

Full sun for at least 5–6 hours a day. The more light it receives, the more intense the colors and pitcher production will be. It will still grow in partial shade, but with less pronounced colors and thinner pitchers. Ideal for balconies, terraces, and gardens. Sarracenia are temperate plants and require a true winter rest. • In autumn, growth slows down and many pitchers begin to dry out. • During winter, they enter dormancy: it is normal for only low pitchers or non-carnivorous leaves (phyllodes) to remain. • In this phase, it is necessary to reduce the water in the saucer, keeping the substrate only moist, and to ensure cold temperatures (0–10°C). • In spring, with the increase in temperatures and light, the plant resumes vigorous growth, producing new carnivorous pitchers. Sarracenias are native to North America, specifically the marshy and peat bog areas of the southeastern United States and Canada. They grow in open, sunny, and constantly moist environments, in nutrient-poor soils.

They use pitfall traps (passive): insects slide into the pitcher, attracted by the nectar; once inside, they are unable to climb back out due to the smooth walls and downward-pointing hairs, and are ultimately digested.
