All PINGUICULA are not necessarily sold with a flower
Pinguicula ibarrae is a Mexican carnivorous plant highly prized for its elegance and ease of cultivation. It forms compact rosettes of fleshy, smooth, and slightly shiny leaves, covered with tiny glands that produce a thin mucilage used to trap small insects. During the growing season, the leaves are wider and sticky, light green in color with slight yellowish hues; in drier periods, it may develop a more compact, non-carnivorous rosette. It blooms with graceful purple-lilac flowers, often with a lighter center, which add further ornamental value. It is an ideal species for both beginners and collectors.

Characteristics

Bright but filtered light. It also adapts very well to artificial light. Some Pinguicula, particularly the Mexican ones, undergo a light seasonal rest (usually in winter), during which they produce a rosette of non-carnivorous leaves that are smaller, thicker, and more compact, adapted to lower humidity conditions. During this phase, the plant does not enter complete dormancy: it is sufficient to reduce the water in the saucer, keep the substrate just moist, and ensure good lighting. With the return of more favorable conditions, it will resume producing carnivorous leaves. Conversely, temperate Pinguicula undergo a true winter rest: during the autumn, they gradually lose their carnivorous leaves and form a hibernaculum (a compact rosette of non-carnivorous leaves) that allows them to survive the cold. In this phase, it is necessary to drastically reduce watering, keep the substrate only slightly moist, and ensure cold temperatures (0–10°C). In spring, the plant resumes growth by producing new carnivorous leaves. Pinguicula are native to various areas of the world; those most common in cultivation come primarily from Mexico and Central America, where they grow on limestone rocks or poor soils. Capture technique: They use passive adhesive traps: insects remain trapped in the viscous substance secreted by the leaves and are digested slowly.
